The Red Lion, Bradley
Forest Contract has worked with the Red Lion in Bradley to create a traditional country pub look, but with an added touch of sophistication. The Red Lion is based in Stafford, and has been there since the 17th Century. The building has had a few face-lifts since it was first built, but it still shows reminders of its history, with some of the old timber frames still visible. This unique building also still has standing stones surrounding it, which are thought to have marked the extent of the settlement many years ago. This truly interesting and historical building now serves as a pub, and Forest are proud to have been able to transform this wonderful venue.
The Furniture
The aim of this project was to maintain a traditional look, but to add comfort and style to make it a welcoming countryside pub. We worked alongside an interior designer to achieve this, and we also ensured that the new furniture wouldn’t clash or stand out from the existing pieces. The existing furniture was some wooden chairs and tables, with the seats of the chairs upholstered in red and grey fabric. We complemented this look by adding red and tan leather EST tub chairs, with the red tub chairs being upholstered on the outside of the back with a similar red pattern to the chairs already in the venue. We also supplied some of our Colchester Arm Chairs, which were upholstered in the same tan leather, and a green fabric on the outside back of the chair.

The Red Lion Design Scheme
This overall traditional look was further enhanced by the use of vintage real leather and traditional patterned fabric, which matched the patterned carpet and paint colour on the walls.
The consistent colour scheme was continued into the entrance, where we supplied two St Dunstan sofas, in the same red vintage leather. These deep buttoned Chesterfield sofas are a twist on the classic style Chesterfield, with a curved back and rolled arms. This updated design echoes what the Red Lion were looking to do-take a popular classic style, and add their own modern look whilst maintaining hints of its roots.
Overall, this was a particularly special project to work on, as the Lewis Partnership have taken this venue to outstanding levels, earning them a Michelin Plate, along with a feature in the 2018 Michelin Guide. The owners have put a lot of time and effort into the renovation, and we are proud to have helped them achieve a pub worthy of the history of a venue such as the Red Lion.
